STEPHEN ILOTT - LECTURES AND EVENTS - See upcoming events list below

About the lectures...

The lectures offer motivational and inspirational insight into the world and life of a Professional Organizer with touching, humorous true life stories - stories of how I was able to help clients move forward with new perceptions and coping systems. I use humor, plain talk and heaping dollops of perspective on dealing with dealing with stuff. I connect with the audience to empower each of them.. I will speak to any group interested in being more organized and overcoming the stress life. Are you ADD and/or ADHD? I get you. I know how to work with your energies and though I am always learning, am empathic to your needs and boundaries..

Often I lead off my lectures by announcing that I am a Domestic Archeologist - (The Title of my book). Like a true digger into the past I sift through layers of many lives in search of the path to restore homes and lives to what they once were or more often what they wanted to be. Via anecdotes and thought provoking perceptions I get my audiences cranked for change and inspired to declutter.

Sounds lofty but make no mistake letting go of the past and moving forward is no easy feat. Establishing who you are and what serves you in your home, of all places, is key. An organizer is not someone who fluffs pillows or finds neat nooks for your shoes. Professional Organizers are gurus of stuff - sympathetic and catalysts for change.

Attendees have said: "I have attended two of Steve's seminars - he explained how he came to start his company and his thoughts on the psychological and emotional aspects of getting organized or "decluttered" in our lives. He has seen first hand the anxiety many of us have about getting rid of the stuff we have collected over the years, and the relief when we finally let it go. Steve, demonstrates understanding and sensitivity to his clients emotions at all times which I think is important, particularly if I am going to refer him to a client. Timing, as Steve knows, is also important. I highly recommend going to listen to Steve speak about what he does and recommending him to your clients who need some assistance in decluttering their lives." - Sincerely, Mary Trudelle, The Well-Tended Garden, Oakville Ontario 2008

“Steve Ilott is a great speaker with an entertaining style. He informs with his humour and is to be enjoyed by all." Nick DeCastro, SNR# (416) 253-4745, Speaker & Trainer.

What attendees said they learned at the lectures:

There isn't anything so serious you can't look at it differently to change your normal and destress. / Letting Go Doesn't mean losing memories / Your House is Your Sanctuary / Be positive about disposing of stuff / Don't keep gifts just out of loyalty to a friend / Let go of belongings you no longer need to liberate your life / Piles of stuff contain emotional landmines / Do I want the item or the space it occupies? / Fun and informative look at an emotional subject / There is hope for my home / What are the emotions attached to my stuff? / Every room should be defined by its use / Create photo albums of memories and delete the items themselves / Clear clutter for emotional space / Choose what you love most when decluttering / There is a relationship between the physical and the psychological / Simplification is a survival technique.

On a very dark cold winter's night I attended a seminar - Letting Go To The Power of Three -- that warmed me up on the inside like no fire in a fireplace could do.

Was it sheer coincidence or good staging that the only man on the roster spoke next - sandwiched between two very different women? Either way, Steve Ilott, organizer, and dare I say, storyteller, had us laughing one moment and crying the next as he told tales of enabling people to get rid of Emotional Clutter. Steve specializes in helping people work through their "emotional landmines" so they can get rid of the items that clutter up their home. He told us that "every room should be defined by its usage; it clears the mind". That really resonated with me; I have a room that needs clearing out. So, how do you declutter your house? Steve's simple yet effective formula: first find things you love less than others; then that is what you downsize or throw out. With his compassion, a wonderful sense of humour, organizational skills and sheer brawn, Steve is the guy to call when you want to let go of material stuff but finding it difficult emotionally!
